In the 1990s, hygiene in Spain was quite basic compared to the way things are today. There was talk of cleanliness, of course, but it was not as advanced or as high a priority as it is today. Homes, businesses and especially public spaces did not yet have many of the conveniences that we now see as normal.
Public restrooms, in stations, parks or restaurants, were functional, yes, but little more. There were no automatic dispensers, powerful hand dryers or antibacterial products. Finding toilet paper or soap was not always guaranteed, and many times you had to make do as you could.🤷🏽
Things that seem basic to us today – like a good hand dryer or liquid soap – were rare or even a luxury. Paper was often lying around loose, ending up on the floor or soaking wet, and soap? well, sometimes it was a bar 🧼 that everyone used. And to dry your hands, there was communal towel or a hanging rag.
Seeing all that now, what a change we’ve gone through in a few years! Do you remember how those bathrooms were like? Did you live any of those “hygienically questionable” moments? 😅
