Hand hygiene as a drive towards sustainability for LOSDI

Published on 31/05/2023 in

Despite being one of the simplest and most everyday gestures for a part of the planet, UNICEF considers hand hygiene as a necessary practice to achieve the 2030 Agenda in terms of sustainability.

By the books, Sustainability is the ability to create a development model capable of ensuring the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations. We are too used to understand the concept of sustainability as an environmental issue linked only to biodiversity and its resources, however, sustainability is the meeting point between the ecological, economic, and social aspects that promote the development of the Planet.

UNICEF claims hand washing as a necessary resource for sustainability, arguing that access to hand hygiene is far from being as accessible as it should be, directly affecting the infant mortality rate of less developed regions such as sub-Saharan Africa where, according to data from UNICEF and the World Health Organization, in 38 countries in this region with available data, levels of access to handwashing are less than 50%.

This is why, at LOSDI, we understand paper dispensers and soap dispensers as necessary tools for sustainability and focus our efforts on making hygiene functional and accessible.

Our dispensers are designed with eco-sustainable criteria to meet ecological objectives, but they are also designed to provide maximum functionality and quality to guarantee lasting hygiene over time. LOSDI’s production processes are strongly contrasted by strict quality controls in order to ensure that all our dispensers fulfill their function and that, in addition, they will do so despite high stress levels and the passage of time.

In 2020, during the pandemic, hand washing became one of the most common and necessary gestures for society. We understood that something as simple as washing our hands helped us maintain our health and that of our loved ones. However, as institutions relaxed safety measures to prevent transmission of the coronavirus, the general society gradually lost the habit of washing their hands.

For this reason, from LOSDI we have set ourselves the objective of raising awareness about the importance of hand hygiene and, as we mentioned, in its accessibility through our Sustainable Innovation System based on Sustainable Development Goals 3, 8, 9, 12 and 13 of the 2030 Agenda.

It is in our hands to make hygiene a resource, not a privilege.
